I was told a cloud sea display is rare on hwy. 14 from Hohuan Mountain. I rarely travel in northern and central Taiwan so I consider myself lucky to have happened on this magnificent scene.

When I stay with my wife’s family in Alishan it more often than not involves drinking copious amounts of alcohol. This time was no different and the sunrise wake up call was less than welcome. We nevertheless managed to get to our sunrise spot just as the sun was peeking over the mountains.

There were two typhoons out in the Pacific sending huge waves crashing into the Cingshui Cliffs 清水斷崖 along the Suao – Hualien Highway in Taroko National Park. I was treated to this stunning display of nature’s power under blue skies.
