Hayashi Hyakkaten, commonly called the Lin Department Store (林百貨), is a Japanese era department store that first opened in 1932. Taiwan’s second department store (the first was Kikumoto Department Store in Taipei), re-opened in June this year (2014).

Steve, Nicky, Oscar and I hopped on a tourist shuttle bus and toured Taiwan’s Southwest Coast for Travel in Taiwan’s Backpack Bus Tour.

Travel in TaiwanThe Garlic Sugar factory was interesting and photogenic, Nankunshen Temple pleased, as always, but the highlight for me was the Jingzaijiao Tile paved salt fields which I had never been to before. We had an overcast day with no sunset to be seen but the potential for sky reflections in the pool with the interesting salt mounds whet my appetite to go back on a nice day.
