Photography in Taiwan
After living in Taiwan for many years, I truly believe that it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The island – located off the coast of south-eastern mainland China – boasts plenty of diverse and beautiful scenery, from stretching sandy beaches and misty mountains, to stunning cityscapes, bursting with vibrant colors. Taiwan truly is a photographer’s haven.

The Festivals
The Dajia Mazu pilgrimage is one of Taiwan’s largest religious festivals.
The Lunar New Year is one of the most important festivals of the year, but not the most exciting. All Chinese festivals are bursting with noise, vibrant colors and elaborate costumes, making it the perfect opportunity to capture great photographs.

Beaches and the coastline

Taiwan is a very diverse place – one day you can be photographing the hustle and bustle of the city, and later in the day you can escape to one of the beautiful stretching coastlines, featuring white sands and blue skies. You can also capture the rolling chain of mountains running from north to south through the centre of the island. There are so many gorgeous photographic opportunities in Hualien County – the mountains and gorge in Taroko Park, Qixingtan cliffs, Jiqi Bay and Carp Lake are amongst some of the prettiest places to photograph.

Architecture

As well as its stunning natural landscapes, Taiwan also has a rich history. The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a very famous monument in Taiwan which attracts thousands of tourists every year. Located in Taipei, Republic of China, the hall has very interesting architecture, making it a great building to photograph. The structure is framed on the north and south by the National Theatre and National Concert Hall. If the Memorial Hall is too cliche, head south to Tainan and photograph some of the traditional temple architecture.
