Soulangh Culture Village recently had an amazing art installation (東山想像與其物產) by Tainan artist Zhang Ya-hui.

Her exhibit was a sensory extravaganza of natural materials taken from the Dongshan farming community where she was raised and meticulously arranged in pleasingly colorful patterns to show the beauty of nature.

My son, Vilian, had a vacation from school that day because three of his classmates were sick with enterovirus so he assisted me and enjoyed playing in the actual exhibit. Ya-hui and her mother assured me this was the purpose of the exhibit, for people to experience the exhibit and get back to our agricultural roots.

She is the first artist for the series on Soulangh’s resident artists that I have been commissioned to photograph. Incidentally, she is an old student of mine that I taught in Hsin Guo High School.
