Travel in Taiwan — Food Journey
Steven Crook, Oscar Sun, Nickey Liu and myself were recently sent on assignment to a clam farm in Tainan. The weather forecast was for rain but we were blessed with beautiful sunshine all day.
The clam ponds and farmers were interesting and Oscar and I borrowed some waders and got into the ponds for photos while Steve and Nickey interviewed the third generation farmers from land. Finally we were treated to a sumptuous seafood meal at A-food Alive Seafood Restaurant where the food, as Steve wrote, ‘exceeded our expectations of excellence.’
***Apologies to Oscar Sun, whose name was erroneously omitted from the credits. Oscar flashing in the pool.We were ferried into the middle of the pond on this PVC pipe boat. My first ride on one this form of transportation so ubiquitous in Taiwan.
The farmers dredged up the clams from the bottom of the pools and put them in these plastic buckets.Next, the clams were separated by size. The smaller clams were thrown back into the pool to continue maturing.
