Yellowjacket wasps
We were out for a walk on a trail system called the 六義山步道 above Nanhua Dam on the border of Tainan and Kaohsiung when my wife spotted this Yellowjacket congregation on the side of a tree. These wasps aren’t as dangerous as the hornets we usually see on our land in Namasia, but I let my kids walk on before I took these photographs.
Just in case they got angry.
None of the photos are tack sharp because I was hand holding my 105mm in shade.
Yellow jackets can sting multiple times because their stingers aren’t barbed like a bees stingers are.
Hornets can be very dangerous. I stay as far away from them as I can. Some that fly around our land in Namasia are as big as my pinky finger and seem barely able to keep airborne with huge abdomens and legs that they drag along behind them.
