Taiwan Dancer Billy Zhang 張逸軍
Yesterday I had the great pleasure of photographing Taiwanese dancer Billy Zhang (張逸軍). We had quite a bit of time (most of an afternoon) to make some images — which is something I’m not used to. I primarily do editorial photography where my subjects often have to be coaxed and cajoled into a session and are looking for excuses to finish the shoot at the soonest time possible.
Billy travelled the world with Quebec-based Cirque Du Soleil for three years before becoming a teacher/choreographer for the Colorado College Drama and Dance Department in Colorado Springs. He has just come back to Taiwan and is needing some promotional material.
Not only did I have more time than I am used to, I also had a subject that is a consummate professional and added more creatively to the shoot than anyone I have ever photographed.
He threw out some great ideas and then we would work to realize them.
Stupendous! dancer and photographer
Great shots. Terrific individual shots and a good variety considering they were all taken within an afternoon.
I agree, those are some great pictures.
Thanks, all!
What an incredible series! Well done Rich!
Very nice!
How refreshing to see these powerful images break away from the usual cliches of dance photography…perhaps because of your active collaboration with the dancer. The synergy of your mutual talents.
Beautifully done, indeed!
Chang or Zhang? You use both spellings…
(I can hear Rich saying: “Jeez… editors are boring people. Get a life, Steve!)
Ah ha ha ha! Nice.
